Day 140 - May 19, 2011

Back in Love Again...

with Shaun T's "Insanity!" LOL! Yesterday, I had a falling out with this crazy man and his insane workout routine! But today's Cardio Recovery was just what my sleepy, sore body needed. This week was rough after my energetic week the previous week.  I was so hyped up last week and so ambitious in both my workout routines and daily habits.  By the time I reached Monday of this week, I was wasted.  It didn't help that I decided any amount, even a few swallows of energy drink was just too much.  So I went cold turkey again with the energy drinks and it really showed in my level of energy and emotions.  But the good thing is, I'm now at a point where I know I don't have to have an energy drink to get through a workout routine or feel okay.  It enhances everything but it is not necessary.  A year ago, or shoot, months ago, it was a "necessity" if I were going to get through anything.

Day 137 - May 16, 2011

Restful Sundays...

I always have mixed emotions regarding Sundays. I love the fact that they are typically a sign of peaceful rest but on the other hand, they also signify the weekend is coming to an end.  Today was one of those Sundays where I multi-tasked to enjoy a beautiful Sunday but prepared for the forthcoming week.  My morning started with a great vegan breakfast of whole wheat pancake muffins filled with protein sausage and tofu scramble. Yumoo! ;-)  Then I gave my body a good stretch with "P90X" Stretch X routine.  It was really needed after a pretty aggressive chest and back strength training routine from Saturday. ;0  After that it was on...

Since returning to a more vegan diet, I've had to be more conscious of food preparation, especially since I'm trying to eat more whole foods and less processed foods.  So today's kitchen duty required prep for today's dinner, and breakfast and lunch for the rest of the week.  I made a great alternative version of one of my ole favorite pasta dishes from the past.  It's a hardy, spicy, yet sweet tasting elbow macaroni dish filled with fresh vegetables, TVP (texturized vegetable protein), nutritional yeast flakes, and Daiya cheddar cheese. See the pic below.

The rest of my day is dedicated to preparation for work and catching a few hours of relaxation on the couch, watching TV, and then off to sleep before the storm that's to come tomorrow with a second week of Shaun T's "Insanity!" Pray for me while you enjoy your Sunday! LOL!

Day 136 - May 15, 2011

TGIS - Thank God It's Saturday!

My first week of doing Shaun T's "Insanity" has been sumtin else! This man is truly insane and as much as I'd like to find a more descriptive way to explain this boot camp torture, I can't...it's crazy, bananas, suicidal (which is the name of one of his exercises)!  I'm just glad it all ended this past Thursday, at least for the week.  I spent Friday revisiting my Zumba workout and today is Chest and Back strength training, with a wine down on Sunday of Stretch X! ;-)

Check out the commercial below:

One of the other changes that I made this week is to return to a vegetarian/vegan diet.  As much as I would like to say that I am completely committed to this lifestyle, a gurl misses the flesh every now and then. LOL!  So, as long as I can, I'm going to keep this diet.  It always makes me feel so good both physically and mentally when I do it.  But as time progresses, it gets challenging because you really have to prepare a lot of your food in advance, sometimes the options feel limiting, and the desire for meat always creeps back in.  Now if they could manufacture a vegan substitute for seafood and chicken wings, I'd be sold permanently! LOL!

The great thing that I've noticed about my new diet and workout routine, is the immediate results in the weight loss department and my mental state.  I loss 5 pounds this week and I just have so much energy and feel good.  Now I'm not going to pretend that everything is kool and the gang, as one of my old colleagues would say. LOL! But my anger, frustration, and depression aren't long lasting as they would have been pre-new lifetime.  I still have some emotional eating issues to clean up, but instead of eating tons of junk, I have reduced the emotional eating to doughnuts. ;-0 In the past, I would consume tons of ice cream, fried foods, sodas, juices, anything I could put my hand on for days when I was stressing.  Now, it's just doughnuts and a little ranting.  But honestly, this new diet and workout routine, keeps me hungry and sleepy.  The good thing is, when I'm eating, it's tons of veggies and things that are mainly good for me.  The sleepiness is perfect at the end of the day because it gives me a restful night and prepares me for a good workout in the morning. ;-)

This new energy, I also contribute to my liquid vitamins and extra B12 shots.  I had to stop taking so much of the Green Tea shots because they were making me a bit more "regular" than this gurl needed. LOL! But I have to admit they are good for cleansing if you need it. ;-0  My mind and body are so clear now and feel inspired and empowered to do so much.  I find myself semi exhausted by the possibilities but loving every minute of it.  I feel somewhat like my old active self again, but with more energy and more clarity as to how to prioritize things.  And when I realize that I'm overextending myself, I pay attention and heed that warning and slow down.

My Word for Today:  Energy!

Day 129 - Monday, May 9, 2011

INSANITY...OMG!

Shaun T is insane, his DVD series is insane, and I must be insane for getting up this morning at 5a.m. to do my first day of the "Insanity" workout! OMG! At first, the warm up was an eye opener and created little beads of sweat.  By the time I was half way through with the 40 minute routine, I had to take my tank top off and use it as a towel because the sweat was pouring so hard and fast! When the cool down was done, I was a pool of sweat!! This man is off his rocker and so am I, because dare I say it, I LOVED IT! It truly hurt so good! LOL!

I tried "Insanity" last year during a time that I was not in the best of health but I was trying to push myself through recovery.  That was not such a good idea at the time. After four days of trying to push through it, I felt defeated and embarrassed because I couldn't do the routine the way I felt that I should have been able to.  After many exercise programs later, and healthier, I'm ready to take on this challenge again.  Our goal is to get through 60 days of this grueling workout program while including a day of strength training and a day of Stretch X from "P90X" to the schedule. ;-0

Stay tuned for more updates and if you're the praying kind, PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for us! LOL!

Day 122, May 2, 2011

Evolution...

This week begins my second week of working out with Zumba Fitness.  Last week's workout was challenging because I was getting over a chest cold but I still pushed play. ;-) This week's routine was much better and less coughing and nasal congestion while I moved my body to the grooves of the Latin music and dance steps.  But the energy this morning was lacking. I was sleepy and felt a bit challenged by the movements of the 20 minute Zumba Rush routine.  Today, we were busy trying to fit our workout in while still preparing for the day ahead.  Our little Kashmir, has surgery this morning and had to be at the doctor's office by 7:30a.m., and I had to be at work by 7:00a.m.  So, it was a quick routine for us and then a mad dash to get to our appointments.

Please keep our little puppy in your prayers as she goes through her surgery.  She has a torn ligament and we pray that this surgery will repair the issue and get her back on her hippety hoppety feet. ;-)

All in all, today's Zumba Rush workout was a good routine.  It got the heart pumping and the blood flowing. I also switched up my breakfast routine from my usual turkey sausage and cinnamon toast to cereal with rice milk.  Just as I try to keep my workout routine interesting, I also try to keep my diet routine just as exciting as possible.  Last night, we had a great, healthy whole wheat pizza with homemade pizza sauce, lots of veggies, Daiya mozzarella cheese, and turkey meatballs. Yummo! My eating habit over the weekend wasn't too bad except for one very bad cheat lunch on Saturday which reminded me why it's so important to eat clean. ;-0  It didn't have to be as bad as it was because the place we had lunch, Yeah! Burger offers gluten free breads and organic veggies and meat.  I did opt for the Turkey Burger instead of the Beef or Bison burger.  But I loaded it down with chili, slaw, and heavy aioli cream sauce. ;-0 I also had onion rings, and a milkshake! Yes, yes, yes! Very bad splurge, but oh so good going down the pipes. LOL!

Surprising Discovery...

On Sunday we stopped by the mall and had a back massage and did a little window shopping.  I really didn't plan to try on any new clothes, but I couldn't resist the new spring outfits.  LOL! So I grabbed a few shorts and tops from my favorite shop, Lane Bryant.  With the new weight loss, I can't really buy bottoms from Lane Bryant because they start at a size 14 and I'm now in a size 12 heading towards a 10.  But from time to time, I buy a size 14 slack there just because it's sooooo cute and I can always pull them way up my still very present stomach. Because my upper half isn't shrinking as fast as my bottom half, I can definitely still buy tops there.

So when I saw this cute little graphic tee, I quickly grabbed the top and headed for the dressing room.  When I tried it on, it felt a little snug and I just assumed it was a size 18/20 and that the cut probably made it run smaller. I'm still going back and forth between sizes 20/22 and 18/20 depending on the cut of the blouse and often because the 18/20 shows off my belly more than a bigger size 20/22.  I'd rather have too big of a shirt than a form fitting pregnancy belly shirt. LOL!  So I took off the shirt and assumed I needed to go get a size 20/22 because this had to be a size 18/20.  But when I looked at the tag in the shirt, I was pleasantly shocked to see it was in fact, a size 14/16!!! Although the shirt was a little snug, it wasn't too tight or difficult to get on. I was finally moving towards  an even lower size than the 18/20 or 18s!!!! ;-) When I tried on the size 18/20, it took on more of the fit that my old reliable size 20/22 would, and gave me more breathing room and opportunity to hide the belly.

Sometimes I get frustrated with the amount of time it's taking to get to the results that I want, but then things like this will happen, and the improvements that I'm experiencing will sneak up on me. But even though sometimes I feel disappointed by the small changes, I never give up because I know what the alternative would be, and I definitely don't want to return there.

Day 115 - April 25, 2011

Back on Track...

Last week was a REST week after contracting a really bad chest cold. I was told by my doctor that it was allergies rather than a cold, but by mid week, my partner had also contracted the same symptoms. ;-0 We spent most of the week, coughing, sneezing, whining, and resting.  Today was my first day back using the Zumba Fitness DVDs. I felt much better after days of not eating much and bed rest, but the cough is still here a little, and it's sort of challenging trying to breathe and cough while doing aerobics. LOL!  But it really felt like being resurrected from the dead after a week of no activity. I'm back alive and ready to Zumba! LOL!

However, I am happy that I was able to get up this morning at 5a.m. to do the workout and got through it. I'm not sure if the sweating that I was doing was a fever breaking or actually the effort of working out, but I sweat a lot. Today was what they call, Zumba Exhilarate, which was a combination of various dance moves and music for an hour.  Tomorrow is the toning routine, called Zumba Ripped for an hour. Wednesday is the 40 minute cardio routine called Zumba Activate.  Then I repeat each workout for a total of 6 days. ;-)

I also started using the Pull Up Revolution that I talked about in my previous blog. This little devil is really helpful to get your body up to the bar for a pull up/chin up.  In the past, I couldn't even get close to the bar but with the Pull Up Revolution, I've been able to lift my body very close, but no cigar yet, I'm afraid. So each day, I will practice trying to get one pull up until I'm able to finally do it.  Then I'll  do more reps until hopefully, I'll be able to do at least 10 consecutive pull ups. ;-)

Day 106 - April 16, 2011

IT'S TIME TO PARTY...

The Zumba Fitness DVDs have arrived! We started using them immediately on Thursday and have truly enjoyed the new addition to our routine.  The funny thing is, we tried to use the DVD series last year, but found the first version of this series to be boring and not comparable to a live group fitness session of Zumba.  But this new version of the series is more exciting and gives you more of a live concert or dance party feeling than the original version. It also has more exercise routines and a concert DVD that covers various global dance routines with guest performers. I look forward to using the series throughout the rest of my workout program this year. ;-)

We made it through a week of doubles! Four days this week, we worked out twice a day, and then ended the week with one ab workout.  The doubles routine was challenging and kept me and my working partner begging for mercy! LOL! But I really think it was worth the double effort and look forward to repeating this type of routine next week.

I have been somewhat frustrated with the lack of weight loss, but I've also been honest with myself.  I know that the lack of pounds dropping is due to my eating habits, and have committed myself to working harder at reducing the consumption of food choices that hinder my weight loss.  Thus far, I've been able to cut out splurges that include a lot of juices, desserts, and fried foods. No fried foods this week, and only one day where I broke down and ate something sweet.  I also tried on some goal khakis, jeans, and shirt and was pleasantly surprised that at least I had loss some inches. I was now able to button the size 10 khakis and size 10 jeans, and ladies' large t-shirt!!!

Unfortunately, my food allergies did flare up this week and made me ill the latter part of the week, and now I'm struggling with a chest cold.  But even with some health concerns, I'm still pledging to continue to work as hard as my body will allow me to, towards my goals. ;-)

So today, is rest day, filled with healthy food, couch potatoism, and lots of sleep. ;-)

Day 101 - April 11, 2011

It's the Cardio REVolution...

I've decided that I definitely need to include more cardio in my workout routine if I want to see more weight loss.  All of the information that I've read including Beachbody message boards, emphasizes the importance of cardio.  As much as I love the P90X routine, I find that my body is sculpting more than actually seeing the pounds fly off.  I know that this isn't a bad thing, but for someone who works out as hard as I do, I need more encouragement.  Plus, if there's anyway to get rid of this fake pregnancy belly, I'm going to try it. LOL!  I spoke with a co-worker that has had great success in losing over 85 pounds and she encouraged me not to be discouraged about the belly. Like other people have said, she agreed that the belly is the LAST thing to go.  She said, she didn't start losing her stomach until the 10th month of her 15 month weight loss program.  Sooooo, I guess, the tummy isn't my worse enemy, just time. LOL!

Oh well, I will learn to appreciate the extra padding until it's all gone instead of "hating" on it. ;-0 Today started my doubles workout program.  Starting this week, I will include cardio for all morning workouts for 5 days a week.  I will also do four evening workouts that will include strength training, ab work, or sculpting.  I figure if P90X is designed mainly to reshape the body, I would leave those workout routines for the evening and utilize my morning workouts for cardio.  There are a few cardio routines within P90X, so those will be reserved for the morning workouts.  I also purchased the new Brett Hoebel, RevAbs Revolution, so those workouts will be reserved for the evening.  I still have my older DVD workouts of Chalean's Turbo Jam, again, cardio routines for the morning.  And Zumba Fitness Exhilirate is on its WAY!!! ;-) I'm looking forward to adding that to my workout routine as well.  And of course, I'm praying that my pull ups will improve with the new Pull Up Revolution tool that's on its way too. I'll give you my reviews of both exercise programs once I try them.

My eating habits HAVE TO HAVE TO improve.  So again, I'm trying to start off the week with a "clean diet."  So far, so good. I did have to rely on my energy drink this morning and this afternoon, and before I workout this evening, I will have another swig or two.  Whatever it takes, I'm dedicated, determined, and dependable, just like our local Channel 5 is! LOL! Stay tuned for more updates.

Oh BTW, Turbo Jam was awsome this morning! Chalean's routine is a bit faster paced than Tony Horton's P90X, but I can appreciate the variety in both of them.  As Tony Horton says, "Variety is the spice of life!"  Keep it Spicy, my friends! LOL!

My Word for Today:  You guess it...Variety! LOL!

Day 95 - April 5, 2011

Plyometrics, Youza Bad Mutha...Shut Yo Mouth...

This morning's workout was one of the most hellacious workouts I've performed since my first attempt at Shaun T's Insanity! Plyometrics with Tony Horton ain't no joke. This crazy, lovable guy, my idol, my hero, is also my torturer! LOL! He put the hurt on me this morning at five in the morning and I love him for it, even so. ;-) When the routine was over, it was on to the day job.  Good Lawd, my feet were hurting, my back felt broken, and I was sleeeeepppy! After a bad thunderstorm last night, the clocks in the house had gone out but my internal clock was 30 minutes early, and instead of starting my day at 5a.m., I was up at 4:35a.m. ;-0  The good thing:  I didn't miss my workout.  The bad thing:  I wish I could have stayed in bed.  At least that's how I felt during the beginning of the workout.  But 20 minutes in, the endorphins kicked in and I was happy that I stayed committed and in the words of Tony Horton, "I brought it!"

My Word for Today:  Strength

Day 92 - April 2, 2011

Tada...

I made it through the week with just one more routine to go on Sunday, a 10-Minute Trainer workout with Tony Horton. ;-)  My workout partner joined me for my morning routine switcheroo and that's been a great experience for both of us.  Even though it's challenging getting up at 5 in the morning to do a workout, the benefit of rejuvenation and completion before the end of a day, is worth it.

Special Delivery...

I received my new workout program from Beachbody on Thursday, RevAbs with Brett Hoebel.  For those of you who aren't Beachbody followers, you still may recognize Brett from his role as one of the new trainers on The Biggest Loser.  Well before his new TBL role, he was also known as a popular fitness trainer to the stars in both New York and California.  He also had his own special workout program to concentrate on your abs.  This program is definitely needed for my stomach issue (WAY TOO BIG)! ;-) So I'm looking forward to the challenge later on this year.  Shaun T's Insanity is next on my list of workout programs after this round of P90X, and then RevAbs.  Wish me luck, strength, life, sanity, LOL!

Word for Today:  Determination

Day 90 - March 31, 2011

Back in the Saddle Again...

I've been gone from this blog for almost three weeks.  Did ya miss me? LOL! Well I haven't been slacking too much since my last entry.  After the week of the 10th, I was wiped out and spent the next week recuperating.  The next week, I got back on track and completed my third week of Phase 2.  This week is the recovery week and last week of Phase 2 and then on to Phase 3.  Even though it's been a recovery week, it still feels like the normal routine.  The main parts of the routine are still a part of the recovery week (Core Synergistics, Cardio X, and Kenpo X) so it's still takes a lot out of you. I started off with a 10-minute routine by Tony Horton and then felt too whipped to continue until this morning.  I decided to switch up my routine and workout in the morning instead of after work.  That actually turned out to be a good idea because I got it over with and I felt energized for the start of the day. Hopefully that energy will carry me throughout the work day, and at least when I get home, I won't have to do a routine. Tomorrow's goal is to do Kenpo X in the morning and finish off the cardio with Cardio X on Saturday.

Frustration...

I've been feeling pretty frustrated with my progress thus far.  Although I see my body reshaping, I still struggle with proper nutrition and faster weight loss.  I was feeling really down over the weekend and for most of this week because of that and the normal blues triggers.  I kept wondering why others were more successful with starvation diets than I was with consistent, challenging workouts.  The only time I see drastic weight loss is when I reduced my calorie count to 1,200 or less and that's just not enough nutrients to get me through these hard routines.  So I end up splurging over the weekend and gain the pounds I loss throughout the week, just to starve again to get back down by the end of the next week.  It's a yo yo effect that's leaving me frustrated.

Then just as I was about to throw in the towel, I received my April issue of Experience Life, and read the article on Reality TV weight loss programs and how they set the viewers up for failure and how unhealthy they can be for the actual participants.  Most of the article emphasized that these quick weight loss techniques are dangerous and that starvation restrictions only cause the participants to regain their weight or more, or cause other health issues.  The article discouraged 1,200 calorie diets and extensive workouts.  That made me feel much better.  Because as the article said, I was comparing myself to the people on these shows and wondering why I wasn't dropping 8 to 10 pounds a week or more like they were.  Sometimes I could get an 8 pound drop in a week, but that's at a very restrictive calorie count.  It was brutal and I was always agitated and angry, but I could trick the scale.  But as soon as I increased my calorie count the weight would quickly resurface.

The article also talked about the other tricks that the participants used to get big weight loss results.  It described the water restrictions and the extra clothing to cause perspiration, and the lack of ventilation in the gyms, and the obsession created by these routines.  To me that doesn't seem very healthy or positive, and perhaps is the reason, several of the contestants gain some, all, or even more of their weight back.  I realized that's not the routine for me, and if it meant, it would take me a longer length of time to lose the weight, perhaps 10 pounds a month or maybe 10 pounds every two months, to ensure that I would keep it off and not risk my health, then that would be the better result for me.  Even my idol, Tony Horton's Before and After folks can make you feel discouraged because some of the guys' results are amazing in just 90 days.  But realistically, it takes more than just one round of P90X for someone with the need for a larger weight loss unless you're taking tons of supplements and again, having lower calorie restrictions.

Patience is a Virtue...

So that's my motto for hopefully the rest of my life.  It is through patience and perseverance that I can succeed.  Sure, we always want things right now, quick and in a hurry.  But nothing worth having, is truly required within a blink of an eye.

My Word for Today:  Patience

Day 69 - March 10, 2011

Kicking Some Bootey Today!

Today was my fourth day of the "P90X" workout. I lunged, punched, kicked, and jabbed my way into one of the best workouts.  But confession time:  I had a full can of nos energy drink today.  I fell off the wagon again! ;-( I know, I know, shame on me. But in my defense, today was an extreme day at work and I was running near on empty.  Although I had a great night's sleep, I was still pooped from my workouts this week and the fact that I've been relying solely on natural energy supplements instead of that extra kick from the caffeine and sugar in energy drinks.  So I plunged deep into that beautiful blue and orange can of life that is otherwise known as nos! ;-) I was hyped from that point on and it helped me get through today's workout.

I've decided tomorrow must be a REST day and a splurge day! ;-) I've been good all week except for the energy drink of course. I had fantasies of a nice BIG JUICY Shiner BBQ Burger from Chilli's with a side of fries and cole slaw and then to wash that all down with a large cup of Red Velvet Frozen Yogurt from my new yogurt place, Menchie's. But then I read the nutritional facts on the burger and fries and realized that combined, they were a total of 1,550 calories. ;-0 WTF! Oh no, I'm not about to spoil all of the hard work from this week with my workout and diet plan just for that big, juicy, hunk of love meat! LOL! Nope, instead I've decided to make my own version at home that will be fewer calories and not as bad of a splurge as the Chilli's version...but I'm still getting that yogurt. ;-)

If you love, Red Velvet cake, you should definitely try it, it tastes just like the cake except it's cold and creamy. ;-0

My Word for Today:  Exhausted

Day 67 - March 8, 2011

The Thrill Is Gone...

That's exactly how I feel about this new 1,200 calorie a day diet. ;-(  I know it's for my good, but Lawd, it's rough!  It's something about feeling deprived or going without carbs that just sucks! LOL! But today is the second day and I'm holding on to the promise of what's to come if I just stay determined and dedicated to this new meal plan.  I'm also a little tired today.  For the past few weeks, I've been taking Fridays as a rest day, which means the rest of the weekend is dedicated to working out, and then I return to the regular workout routine for the next week on Monday. I don't think I've been getting enough of a REST period and it's taking its toll. So I decided, starting this week that I would give myself two days of REST instead of just one. I know this is a different schedule than how the "P90X" program is set up, but I can't keep pushing myself into complete exhaustion.  So I'm going to try and push through the rest of the week until Friday, and take both Friday and Sunday as REST days. ;-) Wish me luck!

My Word for Today:  Frustration

Day 66 - March 7, 2011

Rehab...Day 1...

Today isn't really the first day that I've gone without an energy drink, but it is the first day without an energy drink and on a 1,200 calorie diet plan. ;-0 So far it hasn't been extremely bad.  Thanks to my lovely supplements, I still have much energy and thanks to my great workouts, I get a lot of sleep and wake refreshed each morning. ;-)  Even today at work wasn't completely boring and I only felt sleepy close to the end of the day.  When I left work, I skipped to my car, so again, the energy was still there and I was excited to go home to press Play and get my first workout of the week on.

Today was Core Synergistics without the push of my energy drink. ;-0 It went well. It's funny now when I do my workouts without the rush of the sugar and caffeine in an energy drink. It almost feels like perhaps what a person would feel like that has kicked a drug or alcohol habit and is now performing daily tasks without the influence of the high from a narcotic.  I can still perform the workouts and I still enjoy them, but that BIG high that I got during the workout and after the workout wasn't there.  But, I still felt good and happy that I completed Day 1.

So far there have been no hunger pains or temptations today after starting this new 1,200 calorie diet, but it's only Day 1 and the day after a bit of a binge on Sunday. So I guess my body is probably still full from yesterday. ;-0

My Word for Today:  Happy

Day 65 - March 6, 2011

Death by Chocolate...

I haven't posted a blog in a few days, but I've had exercise and healthy eating on my mind and body. ;-) Thursday was a GREAT workout but it was also very taxing on my body.  I took Friday off as a rest day and although my body thanked me for it, my mind was still on overdrive and really wanted to workout. ;-0 I'm so glad that I've finally gotten to that point where exercise is not a chore but a pure pleasurable moment.  Now on to mastering my food habits.

Speaking of mastering food habits, I had a run in with chocolate yesterday.  After seeing a great movie, I headed to the grocery store for lunch and was presented with a sweet, dark temptation that I couldn't resist.  One of the Publix grocery store demonstrators was advertising Pillsbury new mini brownie packs. These small bite size chocolate brownies are pre-made and can be stored in your refrigerator for freshness (that's what the directions on the package instruct you to do).  They are sinfully good and addictive.  ;-0 I thought I would be able to handle the temptation and bought two packages...they were on sale for 2 for $5.00 and the demonstrator gave me a $1.00 coupon so I got the two for $4.00. Lawd, lawd, I was in control for about 30 minutes but later on that night, I loss complete control and demolished the entire package. I still have one left. ;-0 I'm going to try very hard to remain in control next week and only eat the serving amount as a snack each day.  The product doesn't have to be bad for my diet if I can actually gain control of my need to have an abundance of things that I cater to my sweet tooth.  Other, than that, I had my treat meals over the weekend but I didn't splurge too badly.

Next week...

The goal is to reduce my calorie intake even more and stay away from the carbs.  Although I don't gain weight behind eating carbs at 1,500 calorie a day max, the weight loss is much slower than I think it should be considering the amount of exercise I'm doing on a daily basis.  So I'm reducing the calorie count to 1,200 calories from Monday - Friday, and a 1,500 calorie count on the weekends.  Pray for me, as this new change will be extremely challenging but worth the effort if it works. ;-)

Energy Abundance...

As you know, I've struggled with energy issues for some time now.  Well I'm happy to share that the energy is in abundance these days. I'd like to thank the Academy...LOL! No seriously, I'd like to thank my liquid vitamin, B12, and Green Tea.;-)  I also purchased liquid Ginseng on Friday and I'm adding it to my energy cocktail that also includes soy milk and frozen cut fruit.. ;-) Next week, I'll let go of the energy drinks too. Oh Lawd! No more energy drink and reduced calories for my diet.  This is going to be the start of something...good, I pray.

Day 62 - March 3, 2011

OMG....a workout not from the Heavens...

Today's workout was a killer! But I'm loving it! ;-) It was my very own special routine that I decided to create for the days that I should be doing Yoga but don't. Did I tell you that I hate, hate, hate, Yoga? LOL! I know I've already said that but just needed to reiterate that.  So I thought I'd have a bright idea and create an alternative to the body twisting routine of "P90X."  What I didn't realize is that between Tony Horton and Shaun T., they have created an exercise monster in me. LOL! In case you'd like to try the workout or know what I did, the following is my routine.

Day 61 - March 2, 2011

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

Can you say, "Ouch?" LOL! Today was my first day doing "P90X's" Chest, Shoulders and Triceps routine and it was a killa! Twenty four exercises in 60 minutes! ;-0 But I feel great after the workout and the recovery drink was yummo.  Tomorrow, I'm doing a special customized workout routine designed by yours truly. ;-) I'll let you know how it turns out, but please pray for me.  Sometimes, I'm a little more ambitious than my body is really ready for.  But like my idol, Tony Horton says, "Do your best and forget the rest!" That's what I plan on doing and nothing's gonna stop me! LOL!

Day 59 - February 28, 2011

Phase 2 of P90X Lean, Here I Come...

Today marks my first day of Phase 2 Lean workout.  It was a great, sweaty workout that got my blood pumping and endorphins jumping! LOL! I decided to increase the intensity after reading an article on Yahoo! and increased the size of the weights that I used during the Core Synergistics routine.  It was challenging and definitely gave me a good workout.  Today, I also had an increase in hunger but I didn't splurge. I'm getting used to these sporadic moments of hunger and then other instances where I feel full and can eat even less than what I normally eat.  I tried out one of the recipes that the Publix grocery store demonstrator performed last week for dinner and it was very tasty alongside my vegan Caesar Salad. ;-) Yummo!

My energy level today was much better than before. Although I find myself getting sleepy at work, I merely credit that for the mundane routine that I follow as a writer of ATM software. ;-0 I'm grateful for my job, but I have to admit, there's no excitement in developing technical user guides.  The 8 hour gig just makes me long more and more for my freedom to bring it with "P90X" each and every day. ;-)

Day 58 - February 27, 2011

On the Seventh Day...

I did "10-Minute Trainer" with Tony Horton! I did the Leg routine to culminate my Recovery Week of Phase 1.  Next week, I move on to Phase 2, which should be even more challenging. ;-) Thus far, I've been able to fight against the fatigue that I was experiencing and have armed my body with the supplements that I needed to get the energy pumping in my veins and to feel alert throughout the day and during my workouts. ;-)

Addicted to Food...

Did I ever tell you that I was a foodie? One of my weaknesses is the joy of cooking and eating great tasting food.  I've tried to make sure that if I do cook or when I do eat food these days that it's as healthy as it can possibly be.  But sometimes those old temptations get the best of me, especially when it comes to pastas and breads. ;-0 Today, I found myself at the grocery story this morning after that great workout, combing through the aisles in search of ingredients for a dish I wanted to make today.  A few days ago, I watched one of the cooking demonstrators at Publix put together a chicken caciatore that was simple and tasty, so I thought I could do a low fat version of it, and skip the blue cheese and butter biscuits that she made to accompany the dish. ;-) Did I tell you how much I love Publix and the people that work there? I absolutely love, love, love Publix and their people as much as I love Whole Foods. The lady that had performed the demonstration was there today and helped me find all of the ingredients that I needed as well as convinced me to take more recipes home and share them with others. ;-) You gotta love those Publix people, they help me continue my addiction with food. LOL!  Antiwaze, I bought a few other things and a couple of items from Whole Foods to round off my day, but all in all, I think I have handled the food addiction in a healthy way.

A Picture's Worth a 1,000 Pounds...

Yesterday, I took my 30 day pics for the end of this phase and would like to include pics from the end of January when I started this process and yesterday's pics.  You be the judge, can you tell the difference thus far?

Day 57 - February 26, 2011

Till The End Of...

Recovery Week! Yeah!!!! Yesterday was scheduled for Cardio X but after a bad bout with a stomach virus, I chose to skip the workout and get some R&R.  I also gave myself a splurge meal or two. ;-0 Well, it's confession time.  I had a healthy breakfast and mid morning snack, but I skipped lunch due to not feeling well.  So by the time I left work, I was starving and feeling a little emotional.  You ladies know how it is once a month you go through that emotional time which can often be the catalyst to fatigue and hunger. So I ate but with a few compromises. ;-) I had a frozen yogurt from a new local dessert place and a burger from Chilli's restaurant.  Instead of having an order of fries like I would normally do, I chose cole slaw for my side. I ate the food and didn't feel too guilty but I also promised myself that I wouldn't continue my splurge throughout the entire weekend.  I'll keep you posted. ;-)

Today, I got up very early for my normal Saturday wake up to get in my Cardio X workout before a trip the barber. I'm really excited to take my 30 day pics this weekend and hopefully I will see a little progress. I've been reading the blogs on Beachbody.com and most people say that they didn't see any major results until 60 days, so at least that helps me to set more realistic expectations.  But the good news is, I checked the scale this morning, and so far I haven't gained any weight and have kept my 10 pound weight loss from this week. ;-) Now on to maintaining that or losing even more over the weekend.

Day 55 - February 24, 2011

Stretch X Day...Oh What A Relief It Was...

Today was an easier workout for me, thank God! LOL! I was really looking forward to the calmer, stretching routine instead of the higher intensity workouts from this week.  My body thanked me for unwinding, relaxing, and resting its weary joints and limbs. My eating habits today were also still very good.  I haven't been tempted by my co-workers' food choices, and I haven't had too many thoughts of bad food items.  I just hope that I'm just as successful over the weekend. Wish me luck or pray for me, whichever you choose. ;-)

Day 54 - February 23, 2011

Low Calorie Spells Weight Loss For Sure...

Okay, I broke one of my promises to myself...I weighed today instead of waiting until next Monday. ;-( Shame, shame...not really! LOL! I was pleasantly surprised by the 5 pound weight loss.  This new low calorie routine is truly working and I don't feel deprived at all. I cut back on some of the carbs and sweets, and the Lean Cuisine lunches are tasty but not fattening. ;-) Today, I had lunch with a co-worker and wasn't tempted to splurge.  We did get take out, but I made sure that I calculated the calories before making my selection. I got an order of sushi that was a total of 244 calories and ordered an extra lunch portion of chicken stir fry with veggies and 1 cup of brown rice for dinner.  Both meals were satisfying and again, low calorie.

Today's workout was Kenpo X and my third workout for the week. It was challenging, especially since my legs and hips were already sore.  The kicking and jabbing gave me an excellent workout. ;-)  But I'm glad tomorrow is Stretch X, and more of a recovery day than this supposedly recovery week. LOL!

Day 53 - February 22, 2011

You Call This Recovery...

This is my second day of the recovery week and I feel like it's just another day of a normal week in Phase 1.  Today was Core Synergistics and it kicked my beehive! LOL!  But as usual, once it was over, the endorphins were running high and I was glad that I made it through the workout.  Today is my second day of a better diet and was a little challenging considering today was also an emotional day.  But despite the hunger pains and emotions running high, I stuck to the plan and I'm glad for it. ;-)

Day 52 - February 21, 2011

The Low Calorie Challenge Begins...

Today, I started my low calorie diet plan.  Surprisingly, it wasn't difficult to do throughout the day. I didn't have any unusual hunger pains and I didn't cheat.  For the most part, the early meals were similar to what I normally eat.  Breakfast was still a protein sausage and toast, which was a little bit lighter on the calories than the previous English muffin with scrambled eggs, and Daiya cheese added to the protein sausage. My snacks included both almonds and an orange, which incorporated more fruit in my diet than before. ;-) My lunch included a Lean Cuisine meal that was sweet and spicy and a perfect 280 calories.  Today's workout routine was one of Tony Horton's "10-Minute Trainer" routines and it pumped me up, made me sweat, and got the endorphins flowing, in a short 10 minute time frame. My kind of workout. ;-) Dinner was a grilled turkey burger w/o a bun, vegan Caesar Salad, and a cup of Garden Brown Rice.  I ended the meal with a slice of homemade banana bread. Yummy! ;-) And of course, throughout the day I took my supplements:  B12, Green Tea, Energy Drink sips, Slow Fe Iron tablet, Liquid Vitamin, and Recovery Drink, and I feel wonderful!  The iron pill is different version than I've taken before and I'm praying that the slower release time will be easy on the stomach and heavy on the energy! LOL! Wish me luck!

Day 51 - February 20, 2011

The Third Time's the Charm...

Today, I finished the third week of Phase 1 of the Lean Program for "P90X."  I'm really proud of the fact that I've stuck with the program so far and haven't allowed myself to use any excuse not to perform the workouts.  What's always amazing to me is how quickly time flies once you get into a routine.  The first week of this phase was ROUGH! I was soooo exhausted and sleepy, and the workouts just seemed too difficult because of my lack of energy.  I didn't think I was going to make it, but something inside kept pushing me towards my weekly goal. ;-) The second week wasn't as bad as the first due to my caffeine highs. LOL! But I still struggle with the food plan which was plagued with caffeine, sugars, and fried foods. But I just couldn't seem to get enough to eat or I used the caffeine and sugar for energy.  The third week, the workout routine was automatic and I knew no matter what, I would find a way to get my workout in each day.  Food was still a challenge, but it was this week that I decided to subcumb to a lower calorie meal plan for my fourth week.  So next week's challenge won't be if I will complete my workout routine, but will I be able to stay committed to a good, healthy, low calorie diet plan.  I'll keep you posted. ;-)

Day 50 - February 19, 2011

Return to P90X...

Today's workout was Legs and Back with "P90X."  My routine changed a little bit because I did an impromptu trip to a resort for two days. ;-) My eating habits weren't the best but I didn't use the two days away from home as an excuse not to workout...at least.  So Thursday morning I did the 10 Minute Trainer workout routine and on Friday, I rode a bike and walked the kiddies around the resort.  When I returned home this afternoon, I only hesitated for an hour before I pushed play on the DVD player and did my Legs and Back Routine. Tomorrow is Kenpo X and next week is what Tony calls a recovery week.  Translation for recovery week means no strength training, but cardio is still very much a part of the plan.  I've also decided to work on reducing my calories and eating more "clean" next week. Although I'm disciplined with the workouts, I definitely need to work on my food intake to see the full results of my efforts.

Day 48 - February 17, 2011

10 Minute Challenge...

This morning I started my workout routine bright and early at 5:30a.m. ;-0 As I mentioned in previous blogs, I hate, hate, hate, YogaX and was glad to learn that others aren't too happy about this routine within the "P90X" program either. You know how misery loves company. LOL! Well, instead of using today as a REST day or switching to another 45 to 60 minute routine, I decided to substitute YogaX with one of Tony Horton's 10 minute routines.  As discussed before, these 10 minute workouts can be killer even though they're not very long.  Today was no exception to that reality as I conquered the Core Challenge for 10 minutes. It was rough, tough, and great all at the same time. ;-) The great thing about it is, I've knocked out my workout for the day and feel rejuvenated this morning.   I have to switch up my routine this week due to some other obligations but I'm not missing a day.  Instead of working out on Friday and Saturday and using Sunday as a rest day, I'm actually taking Friday as a rest day sort of, and working out Saturday and Sunday with the "P90X" routine.  However, Friday will be more active than normal as I enjoy a bike ride and a game of golf. ;-0 This will be my first time playing golf, so wish me luck, and I guess you never forget how to ride a bike. LOL!

Day 46 - February 15, 2011

Cardio XXXXXXXXX...

Energy overload today, ladies and gentlemen! Today's workout with Cardio X was great! I had the energy needed to do the 44 minute workout without strain. ;-) I felt good, it was good, and everything is Kool and the Gang! LOL! I'm still not sure what's given me this burst of energy (e.g. Energy Drink, B12 supplement, Green Tea supplement, Life, etc.), but I ain't knocking it. Tomorrow is one of my favorite workouts:  Shoulders and Arms and I can't wait to carry this energy over into Wednesday.

Day 45 - February 14, 2011

THIRD WEEK OF PHASE 1, HERE I COME...

Today marks the third week of the Phase 1:  Lean Program of "P90X," and I'm bringing it with Tony Horton and his crew! I was a little hesitant to perform the Core Synergistics workout today but after an energy drink (yes, I know, I know, I promised to let them go), I was flying high! Literally, this workout felt great and although I sweated and struggled through some of the routine, it was just what I needed today and I'm looking forward to Tuesday's Cardio X routine! ;-)

Day 43 - February 12, 2011

Second Week's Over...

Well I made it through the second week of Phase 1 - Lean of "P90X"! This week wasn't as difficult as the first week because I wasn't fighting the issues with sleep and fatigue as much.  Those little demons are still here just not as bad. ;-0 I started taking B12 and Green Tea Liquid supplements yesterday and hopefully I will begin to see more signs of energy in a few weeks. I'll keep you posted. ;-) Next week I'm going to try to do my workouts without the use of energy drinks. OMG! Although they give me a quick jolt of a false sense of energy, I think they're wreaking havoc on my gut. ;-( So it's back to using my vitamins, the "P90X" recovery drink, and a wish and prayer. LOL! I"ll keep you posted on this too.

I'm still anxious to see some major results, but I also understand that they will show up when they're ready to show up. It's been hard staying consistent but I know that this is truly something that is for my good and something that I can do for me and only me. So I'm staying on the course to what I believe is the "right" path for me.

Day 41 - February 10, 2011

10 Minutes of Pure Sweat...

Today was my semi rest day.  Instead of doing the Yoga X routine, I decided to use this as a rest day.  Well first, I thought of incorporating a different workout routine, like Cardio X or Kenpo X.  Then I watched Tony Horton's "10 Minute Plyometrics" workout routine last night and decided to do that routine today.  But as I sat at work today and dealt with some office drama, I thought about foregoing any sort of workout.  The usual suspects started lurking around in my mind and whispered sweet doughnuts and chili dogs in my head. LOL!  But as I drove home today, the determination that I've been feeling as of lately got rid of the negative voices and inspired me to go through with the 10-minute Plyometric routine.

It was tough, it was rough, it was painful, it was just what the doctor ordered. ;-) As usual, Tony Horton made me a believer and helped me to do "my best and forget the rest!"

Day 40 - February 9, 2011

Time for the Gun Show....

Today was Xcellent with the Shoulders and Arms Routine - "P90X."  It's my third day of the second week of Phase 1:  Lean Program and I'm loving the break from the high energy cardio.  I've joined the Beachbody Message Board and have received a lot of information from a female point of view on increasing my energy and setting realistic expectations for results.  Most of the women encourage drinking the Shakeology meal replacement shake for energy and to expect to see results from the workouts within 60 days or later.  As much as I struggle with energy issues, I just can't see investing $130.00 a month in this miracle smoothie.  A part of me really wants to know if it works, but I think I'm going to have to stick with the current "P90X"  Recovery Drink, a liquid vitamin, and getting more sleep.  I'm glad to know what I should expect when seeing results.  Like most, I wish I could see instant changes but Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was my belly fat. LOL!

I had planned on giving myself a REST day tomorrow instead of the Yoga X routine, but think I might try the "One-On-One 10 Minute Trainer" series with Tony Horton. The routine I want to do is Plyometrics and should be intense enough for a good workout but short enough so that I won't be too exhausted. I'm previewing it as I write this blog, but will give you the facts Jack after I do it tomorrow evening. LOL!

My Word for Today:  Xcellent!

Day 39 - February 8, 2011

Second Time Around...

This week is my second week of Phase 1:  Lean - P90X.  I can't say that it's getting any easier as of yet, but I'm happy that I'm still with it.  Today, I wasn't really feeling like working out and even thought about skipping today and calling it my REST day, but I changed my mind and dug into Cardio X.  Cardio X is actually one of my favorite routines within the program.  It's a sample of  different "P90X" routines:  Yoga, Kenpo, Core, and Plyometrics and it's only 40 minutes long.  It's a perfect routine to do after a previous day of Core Synergistics, which is a killer! LOL!  Tomorrow is a strength training day and yet another routine that I look forward to, especially since it focuses on upper body, an area that I desperately need to improve.

Although I'm a good self-motivator, I do from time to time, struggle with finding positive support from others. This week started with a feeling of isolation and frustration because I really wanted to have more energy than I do for each workout and just overall more energy and alertness throughout the day.  I decided to join the Beachbody Message Board and discovered that I'm not the only one that has struggled with adjusting to the challenging routines of "P90X."  Reading their stories and hearing similar accounts made me feel as if there's hope for me to make it through 90 days and beyond. I've just got to remain patient with myself and this journey and have faith that my body will adapt to the routine and I will grow leaner and stronger each day.

My Word for Today:  Patience

Day 37 - February 6, 2011

And on the 7th Day...

I'm resting. ;-) This week has been extremely busy with the normal day job routine as well as my new "P90X" routine.   The energy drinks kept me functional but there was definitely some adjustment needed.  Yesterday was the usual errands, household chores, and a catchup on TV shows that I missed during the week.  Today is a semi rest day as I do a little lounging on the sofa in between preparations for next week (cooking, ironing, etc.).  What I've learned so far during this first week is...

  1. Low calorie is good as long as it doesn't equate to starvation or doesn't support an active lifestyle.  Eat enough to accommodate the strength and endurance you will need for your workout routine.
  2. Moderation and modification protects your body and ego. LOL!
  3. An adequate amount of rest is just as important and probably even MORE IMPORTANT than the number of days you exercise.  Without proper nutrition and rest, your body won't function at its peak to do the workout routines that you demand of it.
  4. Pounds loss matters to our minds and egos, but what really matters is how you look and feel:  the inches loss and the happiness gained.
My Word for Today:  Rest and more rest!

Saturday, February 5, 2011

Day 36 - February 5, 2011

TOUCHDOWN...

Today was my last workout routine for the week, Kenpo X! I made it to my goal and didn't miss a day. ;-) Tomorrow is considered a rest day or stretch day and I definitely need to unwind these tight muscles.  It was great to sleep in this morning and I don't feel as tired as I normally do before an active day. ;-) I did however, come to the conclusion that until I'm at the ultimate place of tip top shape, I can't do the aggressive schedule of a 6 day workout that "P90X" requires.  I know that Tony says that we should do some form of exercise every day and I don't disagree with that logic, but I don't believe that every day has to be as strenuous as the workouts in "P90X."  I truly believe that your body has to be given a time to rest and not just one day of rest but at least two.  So next week, I plan on working out 5 days a week with two rest days, one rest period in the middle of the week and one rest period at the end of the week.

So now off to enjoy the rest of my weekend. I hope you're having a wonderful weekend too! Go Steelers! For all those Steelers' fans.  Tomorrow I will be pretending to know a thing or two about football. LOL! What will you be doing? Whatever you do, have a great time doing it!

Day 35 - February 4, 2011

TGIF and one more Day to Go of P90X!

Thank God It's Friday and I've made it through my fifth day of "P90X!" ;-) I wasn't that great with my eating habits today because I didn't bring my lunch to work and ended up skipping lunch all together. I had a previous engagement with a co-worker who canceled on me and with the dreary weather in Atlanta today, I wasn't interested in going outside alone or settling for the greasy food in our company's cafeteria.  Today was also the doughnut club day in our department and I splurged with half of a chocolate cake doughnut from Dunkin Doughnut. It wasn't too bad on the calorie count, only 145 calories for half and I got to be a good co-worker by sharing with someone else. ;-) LOL!  I took in a full can of nos energy drink which helped throughout the day and through my Legs and Back routine with "P90X" and now I'm bouncing off the wall with a "false sense of energy" ready to take on my next task...EATING! LOL!

Today is my cheat day and I've chosen Chilli's as my drug...I mean, food supplier of choice. LOL! Tomorrow it's back to a healthier eating program and Kenpo X (sort of like kickboxing) with Tony Horton.  So thanks for sharing this first week of "P90X" with me and here's to more days of Bringing It!

Day 34 - February 3, 2011

MODERATION AND MODIFICATION...

Okay, here's the skinny...or the fatty, whichever you prefer on weight loss. LOL!  First, I want to always be honest with myself and with you whenever I talk about my journey through this lifestyle change.  What I've always found to be frustrating is when you listen to others talk about their journey and they are vague or paint a picture perfect story for you.  Never fear that I'll ever be vague or make it seem like it was an easy journey for me, cause it's far from that.  In fact, today was one of those days full of frustration and doubts.  Today, I was exhausted from the current exercise routine, probably suffering from withdrawal symptoms from lack of the fattening and sugary sweet foods of old, and a little jittery from all of the caffeine in the energy drinks I consumed today. ;-0 Yes, yes, I have to confess and admit that I've been hyping it up with the energy drinks. I know they're not the best methods for energy, but they have been the only resources that I've been able to get some results from.  I've tried the vitamins, the teas, the water, and nothing keeps me going like an energy drink.  But even today, the caffeine Gods couldn't help me. LOL!

To make matters worse, today is Yoga X day and I hate, hate, hate, yoga!!! Did I say, I hate yoga? I HATE YOGA!!!!!!!! Okay, I know, that's a bit extreme, but that's just how much I hate it. Out of all of the workouts within the "P90X" program, Yoga is a painfully lonnnnnnnnnggggg 90 minutes! Well, this is where the moderation and modification came into play for me today.  Because I just couldn't get through all of the twists and turns, and planks, and runner's poses, and everything above, below, and in between. LOL! So I did 25 minutes of the program.  Now the perfectionist in me, saw this as a failure.  I really wanted to do the program EXACTLY like it's set up instead of my previous modification of the program.  But honestly, I don't know if I'll ever like yoga and I don't want to dread any parts of "P90X."  So I've decided to remove yoga from my routine and substitute an extra round of Kenpo X or Cardio X or a rest day in its place.  I pray that this doesn't negatively effect my progress. ;-(

I also wanted to have "perfect" eating habits this time around. I wanted to ensure that I had the lean cuts of meat, lots of vegetables, minimal starches, and absolutely no desserts unless in the form of fruit.  But even that's not realistic for me.  This sort of restriction only increases the binge tendencies.  So I'm willing to forgo the quick and drastic weight loss that all of the diet programs and reality shows promise you, and slowly move towards my ultimate goal of a lifetime of good health and well being. I know I've said this before, but I'm beginning to truly understand the importance of this promise to myself.

So many people are desperately trying to find the quickest way to get to that weight loss goal they don't even care what harm they might be doing to their bodies, nor do they realize that they're setting themselves up for failure.  I was talking to a co-worker today about her weight loss program and she was really hyped about the 17 pounds that she had recently shed within 3 weeks after going on a 600 calorie a day shake diet. ;-0 She was continuing down this path by now increasing her diet to two apples a day and two grilled chicken salads. When I asked her about her exercise routine, she told me that she didn't like to exercise, so she was working out only two times a week.  I held my tongue, as she talked about taking diet pills along with this routine. I kept thinking about how hungry I was feeling eating 6 times a day of healthy snacks, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with some soy ice cream for dessert; and I couldn't imagine the pain she was putting her system through to see this quick weight loss. I would be absolutely crazed if I starved myself like that.  I would also be even more exhausted than I am now, if I tried to eat like that and exercise the way I'm currently exercising.  But we all want to see those pounds drop and that number go down on the scale, sometimes, at any cost.

As difficult as it is for me to exercise patience, I promise myself today, to take it slowly and be gentle with myself.  I promise to celebrate the small as well as big accomplishments.  I promise to enjoy the process more and spend less time trying to be perfect.  I promise myself to spend the rest of the life I have, being good to me and loving me the way I should have so many years ago.

Day 33 - February 2, 2011

AB RIPPER X...I HATE IT, BUT I LOVE IT!

Today, was Shoulders & Arms, and Ab Ripper X.  It's amazing how a 60 minute workout can be easier than a 15 minute workout...but that's exactly how it was today.  ;-0 The strength training for 60 minutes was great! I moved through all of the exercises with enough of a challenge that gave me the burn I needed but wasn't too challenging that I couldn't keep good form or hurt myself.  I was so hyped from the workout that I almost forgot that I had an extra 15 minute workout of ab exercises...and this is where the pain came in! ;-(  Tony Horton even admits that he has a love/hate relationship with this routine and he's the master! LOL! So imagine what it was like for a newbie like me.  But with modification and less reps, I made it through this strenuous routine and all for the better.

Day 32 - February 1, 2011

Do Your Best and Forget the Rest...

That's another one of my idol, Tony Horton's sayings.  It's also an adage I live by in more than just when I exercise.   Today, I was met with fears of the past and although I didn't let those fears tempt me into eating poorly or foregoing my Cardio X routine with Tony Horton, the sadness distracted me throughout the day.  But when I made it home, popped in the Cardio X DVD, and pressed play, the struggles of the day were pushed aside as I brought everything I could to my workout.  Like yesterday, I was amazed at how my body had grown and was capable of doing with the extreme workout routine.  I could do the Yoga section longer than before and I could actually do some plyometric moves without too much of a strain.  The exhilaration of putting my all into this workout and having my body support me, was just what the doctor ordered. ;-)

Tomorrow's strength training and I'm looking forward to continuing this journey with Tony and his crew until the very end!

Day 31 - January 31, 2011

BRING IT!!!!!!

That's what Tony Horton, creator of "P90X" told me to do, so I did it! LOL! Today was the first day of the 90 day P90X Lean Program.  This 60-minute cardio and strength training session, brought the sweat, the pain, and the endorphins! Core Synergistics focuses on strengthening your powerhouse, which for me right now, is more of a spare tire than a powerhouse. ;-0 Filled with variations on push ups, squats, lunges, and an upper body weight routine, Tony brings the variety and the challenge in every move.  When I first started my journey last year, "P90X" was a part of the plan.  Today I noticed that I didn't have to modify my movement as much as I did when I tried it the first time.  I could do the jumping jacks in the warm up and I only skipped two of the exercises rather than skipping 6 of them, as in the past.  Although the routine was still challenging, I was able to keep up with Tony and his crew and felt whipped but not defeated when it was all over.

Check out Mr. Tony Horton and his answer with Fox 5 Atlanta!

My eating habits today were good and didn't leave me with hunger pains.  The day started off with a bit of a stressful situation but I didn't seek out a remedy in food.  My energy level was higher than normal and I felt great as I headed out the door towards my workout for this afternoon.  Today was a very good day and I'm looking forward to the next 89 days of "P90X!"  Feel free to join me. ;-)

Day 30 - January 30, 2011

The Calm Before the...P90X!

Tomorrow, I begin my first round of 90 days with Tony Horton's "P90X!"  I'm excited and a little apprehensive at the same time.  ;-0  I've done the routine before but never consistently and although I saw good results the first time, I'm pumped to see what will happen when I complete an entire 90 days.  This round is the Lean routine that promotes weight loss. I also purchased a copy of "Big Book of Food and Nutrition," to learn more about healthier eating habits.  It's just as informative as the Exercise book from the same series.  I tossed and turned over whether or not I would continue my early morning routine of the "10-Minute Trainer" and meditation at 5a.m., but I think I'm going to start this workout routine with a single workout on a daily basis instead of the doubles routine I've been doing.  So wish me luck as I bring it...with P90XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!!!

Day 29 - January 29, 2011

Zumba...

Yes, today was another dance party for the weak and weary.

LOL! I wasn't sure if my body was going to hold up to another day of high energy cardio, but with a smoothie for breakfast and few sips of an Energy Drink, I was ready to Zumba! We were about 15 minutes late for the class, but the 45 minute workout that we received was enough to get the heart pumping, the sweat pouring, and the body aching.  My knees were screaming for a sit down but my spirit was flying high! ;-)

This week culminates my first month of this new healthy attitude and although I've stumbled and tripped over my own two feet from time to time, I know that I'm committed to a healthier way of living because it just feels sooooo good.

As I move into next week's workout routine, I've decided to switch up my program again and return to a workout series that jump-started my weight/inches loss last year, Tony Horton's "P90X."  My goal is to do this program for the next 9 months.  There are three variations of the program:  (1) The Classic, for strength building, (2) The Lean, for weight loss, and (3) The Doubles, for pure athletes looking for an extreme workout. ;-)  My plan is to do The Lean version first, then The Classic, and to wrap things up with The Doubles.  ;-0 Pray for me, because I'm going to need all the prayers and strength I can get to stay committed, strong, and successful with this program.

Day 28 - January 28, 2011

It's Time to Party...

That's what Chalean says from Beachbody.com's "Turbo Jam Cardio Party" DVD workout.

But my body felt more like taking a nap and calling it quits. LOL! This is my fourth workout day this week and my second workout for the day.  This morning, I kicked off the day with another one of Tony Horton's "10-Minute Trainer" workouts.  Today was legs all around because Tony started with a tough leg routine and Chalean ended the day with round kicks, back kicks, front kicks, kicks, and more kicks. ;-0  As much as I dreaded the 45-minute workout, I have to honestly say that it was worth it! By the end of the workout, I felt sore, but happy!

Tomorrow, I finish the 5 day workout routine with Zumba! Now that's going to be a really great party! Hopefully, the body will make it for this last day.
